Volunteering during the COVID-19 Pandemic:
We want to be respectful and mindful of the recommendations of the provincial government of staying home during this time. Having said that, we would still like to be able to serve people who are struggling with poverty and addiction. Therefore, please prayerfully consider if God would have you volunteer at Union Gospel Mission at this time. You must be in good health if you will be coming in to volunteer.
A couple of specific areas where we currently need volunteers are:
- Helping to prepare lunch on Wednesdays at our Family Life Centre in the morning
- Serving meals to the community at lunch and the evening soup line meal at our location on 320 Princess Street.

Volunteers are extremely valuable in the ministry of UGM. Their time, energy, talents and experience aid missionaries as they together provide Christ-centered programs to the addicted and the poor men, women and children of Manitoba. Love and support, in the name of Jesus, can be extended to a greater number of people with the assistance of caring volunteers. UGM is thankful for the encouragement it is to have volunteers serving alongside the missionaries enabling an enlarged outreach. Each person giving of their time to further God’s kingdom at UGM is appreciated.
Ways to Volunteer at UGM
A volunteer may come as a registered volunteer, as an occasional volunteer, or as part of a group. Volunteers may be able to serve in one or more of the seven ministries.
Registered volunteers include those functioning as mentors in the men’s or women’s addiction recovery centres or as those providing administrative assistance. These volunteers generally serve frequently and often are involved in leading, instructing, or counselling. If this is of interest please click on our Volunteer Application.
Occasional volunteers include those coming to serve at one of the special community meals or those assisting during the summer months or around Christmas time when many missionaries and registered volunteers may be on vacation. Other examples may include infrequent volunteers who are not leading, instructing, or counselling those we serve. Group volunteering opportunities include serving with others from their church in a monthly event at the Charis Center to cook a special meal and do crafts with ladies in the program; a youth group from a church coming to UGM to sort clothing, assist with meal preparation and cleaning up the dining hall; families wishing to invest in the lives of others by coming to listen to, encourage and pray for people in the community who come into the UGM facilities; employers coming to the four locations of UGM to assist with cleaning the grounds or doing general upkeep of the facilities.
