Our Staff

Frank Ulrich,

Executive Director

Frank graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) Degree, majoring in Marketing and Business Administration. After careers in Sales, Customer Service, and Human Resources, he has been thankful and excited for the opportunity to begin serving as Executive Director of UGM in 2017. His faith in God has always been a central part of his life, and he has always had a strong desire to help the less fortunate and to continue to share his faith with others.

Martin Chidwick,

Development Manager

After four decades working in the international pulse trade, Martin felt led to transfer his passion to helping people through UGM. Martin’s roots lie in England, Belgium, and Germany, but today he calls Canada home. He is grateful to his wife for her prayer and support as he seeks to serve Jesus at UGM.

Jo-Anne Scott,

Business Care Manager

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6.  Jo-Anne gratefully acknowledges the Lord for His goodness and kindness in His directing her life personally, her marriage to her husband and her career, first in the public sector, and now joining with many to serve our Lord by serving those in need.  To Him be all the glory, honour and praise!

Daniel Glawatzki,

Operations Manager

Originally from Germany, Daniel and his family immigrated to Toronto in 2010, and relocated to Winnipeg in 2019. In his formative years, Daniel observed his parents demonstrating Christ’s
love, inviting the less fortunate into their home. Their heart of service made an impression on Daniel’s life. He is thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the incredible team at UGM.

Gilbert Plante,

Family Ministries Manager

Gilbert has been the Family Ministries Manager since 2011. While his Mission responsibilities keeps him very busy, he also serves as the Pastor of Family Life, and is Associate Pastor of a Winnipeg Church. Gilbert truly believes that God has used his own recovery from drug addiction to prepare him for these ministries.

Loriann Tulk,

Charis Centre Program Manager

Originally from a small town in Newfoundland, Loriann arrived in Winnipeg to study social work at Booth College, going on to work closely with individuals who have suffered trauma, addiction, and who have experienced mental health challenges. She has also worked with both men and women exiting the federal correctional system. Even though she takes her work very seriously, she also loves to laugh. Loriann feels privileged to work at the Charis Centre.

Mark Kelm,

Chaplaincy & Men’s Recovery Program Manager

Mark first began serving as UGM’s evening Chaplain in 2013. Prior to UGM, he led South Korean missionaries in the Brandon area in outreach work with the Indigenous people of Sioux Valley and Pipestone. He has also taught English in South Korea, completed training as a hospital chaplain at Riverview Health Centre and Victoria General Hospital, and is a graduate of Providence University College and Seminary with a BA in Biblical Studies (2000) and a Master of Divinity degree (2004). Mark became Senior Chaplain at UGM in 2018 and continues to find this work fulfilling, seeing the Lord Jesus Christ change lives.

Gerald Dahl,

Principal

Gerald serves as the Principal of Faith Learning Centre, where dedicated staff help students complete their grade 12, and make Christ their Saviour. After 31 years in Christian schools in BC and MB, Gerald worked 6 years in government and also uses his experience from church boards and other real life events as well as credentials from his post graduate degree (TWU) to shape FLC’s adult learning program.

Ed Buller,

Street Ministry Manager

Ed Buller graduated from Providence Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in April 2006. After serving the Lord and the community in pastoral ministry for over 30 years, Ed was called to join Union Gospel Mission Winnipeg as a chaplain in December 2021. He now serves as UGM’s Street Ministry Manager, helping oversee frontline outreach and ministry to Winnipeg’s poor, homeless, addicted, and vulnerable populations. Ed’s favorite Bible passage is Psalm 40:1–3, a passage he believes beautifully reflects the heart of street ministry: that God hears the cries of His people and desires to lift them out of the muck and mire, setting their feet upon the Rock—His Son and our salvation, Jesus Christ. Through daily chapel services, outreach, recovery ministry, and frontline care, Ed is passionate about sharing the hope of the Gospel with those who are hurting and forgotten.

Ruth Ndung’u,

Charis Centre Resident Support Manager

Originally from Kenya, Ruth and her son immigrated to Winnipeg in 2016. Leaving her home country, Ruth had only one prayer for her new country; that God would lead her and plant her in a Christ centered organization. So, exactly one month after landing in Winnipeg she got a job at the Charis Centre. She has faithfully served at the Charis Centre and brings with her a passion for serving the residents and education, experience, and skills to lead a team of RSW’s (Resident Support Workers) to minister to the women. Ruth feels grateful to serve and be part of the life changing ministry at the Charis Centre. Her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11 which constantly reminds us that God always has good plans for us and serving at the Charis Centre was God’s plan for her relocating to Canada.

Meg Vale,

Charis Centre Program Manager

Originally from the UK, Meg and her family left their homeland behind and responded to the call of God to move to Winnipeg in 2019, to serve the local church. Meg was impacted by the LORD’s passion for social justice when she was 17 years old and has volunteered, pioneered, worked and studied in that field for the last 25 years. Meg loves to minister to the life-transforming love of Jesus and to lead and encourage the women around her on their journey of faith and service to Him.
