Kelly came to the Union Gospel Mission nine months ago. He has a quiet personality and he likes to keep busy. After being in the men’s recovery program for about two months, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He found a growing peace in his soul that he never had before. While he had his struggles with temptation when it came to his addictions, the Lord in His grace, kept Kelly from stumbling.
Today Kelly is nearing the end of his time in our recovery program. He has been an example to
others in how quietly and faithfully he goes to his classes and carries out his chores for the Mission. Kelly is a naturally quiet person but the Lord seems to have given him a steady and calm spirit in the last six months. Whenever Kelly is needed in the kitchen to help prepare food for our street guests, he usually just walks to the kitchen and gets right to work without any grumbling. Kelly has found a calming of his soul that has led to a Christ-like character of steady and calm service to the Lord and a growing freedom from his addiction.
In Mark 4:39, Jesus was with the disciples in a boat out on the sea of Galilee in the midst of a storm. Jesus stood up in the boat and said, “Peace, be still!” And a great calm fell over the sea. Jesus seems to have stood up in the midst of the storm in Kelly’s soul and said again, “Peace, be still!” If there is a storm in your life today, pray for Jesus to calm that storm and give you peace.
