Thanksgiving - Charis Centre
Most of us look forward to Thanksgiving as it is a time to get together with family and friends to share lots of food and laughter. We all have our traditions that we follow which often include saying what we are thankful for. Holidays can be difficult for many of the ladies that come through our program for many reasons. Some miss their families and children whom they cannot spend the holiday with, while others may remember holidays as a time of trauma because family gatherings didn’t go so great for them growing up. Sometimes it’s difficult to identify anything to be grateful for when life seems to have thrown the worst at you.
This year, we at Chairs are so grateful to a great group of volunteers who came in to make Thanksgiving Day special for the residents. A group from Waverly Church volunteered their time to come to Charis and cook a great meal to serve our residents. On a normal day, the food would be cooked and the women would serve themselves. On this day, the ladies got VIP treatment as they sat at their tables and the food was brought to them. We are so beyond grateful to people who so kindly take time on these special days to serve and show God’s love to those who are struggling and trying to find their way. The residents loved the meal and are talking about the great time they had. I know that this year they were thankful for each volunteer who came and spent time with them.
