Struggles - Street Ministry

Man-struggle

Marvin came to me in a bad state.  He has been struggling with an addiction to crystal meth for two years now.  He came to me just as he was coming down from the “high” of meth, when people are usually in a state of psychosis.  As is the norm for someone in that state, he was feeling paranoid and irritable, but also very tired of living such a chaotic lifestyle.  He came to me asking for prayer to find peace with God.  He desperately wanted a moment of peace, even if it was for one day.

I let Marvin know about our addiction recovery program at UGM and he said he would think about it.  Then I told him about Matthew 11:28, where Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”  I told Marvin that if he really wanted peace in his life, the only way to find that peace was by surrendering his life to Jesus.

I prayed with Marvin that he would give his life to Christ and know what real peace is.  I took him through passages in the Bible that talk about God’s protection in Christ and how we can face the hardships in life with Him, instead of numbing everything with drugs.  Marvin left my office a lot calmer.  I never saw him after that, so I am glad that he heard the Gospel that day.  I’m hoping he gave his life to Christ and found the peace that surpasses all understanding.
