Jeremy has been coming to the chapel services at Union Gospel Mission for several years now. He is one of those people who despite a lot of hardships in his life, he always has a smile on his face and always ready for a good laugh. You can see that life has been hard on Jeremy by the wrinkles around his eyes and the graying hair and beard that he has, even though he is just in his early fifties.
One day I told Jeremy that I look forward to seeing him because he is one of those people whose demeanor helps to brighten your day. I also asked him how he keeps in such a good mood and his response was very encouraging. He said that the Lord revealed hope to him in Jesus through the sermons, food and clothing that he received at UGM. He realized that there were people who actually cared for him. Most importantly, he realized that God loved him and did not hate him, or just wanted to punish him every day. Jeremy said that he realized that if God would send His only Son to die for him, then there must be greater hope than we can imagine in that. Amen!
The apostle Paul said in Romans 5:5, “… hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” May the Holy Spirit continue to show Jeremy and all of our chapel guests, the hope that is found only in Jesus.
