David was born on the island of Trinidad. He grew up in a neighborhood that wasn’t kind to single moms. His family loved partying, and his drinking started when he was only 6 years old. Older men would pour him drinks for fun. Being a single mom, his mother went through difficult times. One day his mother told him that he should have never been born. If she knew that he would have been a boy, she would have killed him. Fifty years later, he still hears those words.
“I don’t drink to get a buzz, I drink to kill the pain that I had to live with, and it is a lifetime of hurt”. David went to Church as a child and he remembered how he felt in Church. He enjoyed the singing and learned about the Love God has for His people. He heard there’s a heaven and wanted to die so that he could go there. He also learned that killing yourself is wrong, so that’s why he is still alive. Drugs and drinking became the tool to numb the voices in his head.
He came to UGM about 10 years ago and had a good run for about 3 years without drugs and drinking. In 2017 he came back to UGM for 7 months and then moved into his own apartment. Unfortunately it all came crushing down. David is now back at UGM. He wants to learn how to keep Jesus’ peace, not for a day or year, but for a lifetime. David wants God to heal him and not let the world get him down. “I want to love God, He has been merciful and loving to me. He has been my only Friend. UGM is a good place to learn. I pray to God to heal me, to show me how to live with my pain and to never forget others in their pain or pass on His love.”
